Creating Rainbows!

Using Skittles the students "created" a rainbow pattern and then added water to watch the colors appear in the water- how interesting to hear what they thought was happening-- several even knew that the color off the candy was dissolving into the water! What bright kids:)  We discussed the actual way rainbows are created, but it sure was fun creating one this way!

Mid Week Fun!

Our 2nd grade math buddies have been working hard on their production of several Fairy Tales. We were invited to go watch one of their performances- what fun that was!!

Letter B week

The short week was still packed with fun! The kids balanced beanbags on their heads and couldn't get enough of this fun activity!

I have been so impressed with their ability to come up with /B/ words!! Each day they kept thinking of more words and adding them-- Quite a list for only 3 days of school!! They are starting to make the connection between the letters and sounds- some are even beginning to sound out the entire word!! WOW!

Letter P week

So much to do! Playing Pop Up Pirate was a great way to work on turn taking, fine motor and visual motor skills, cause and effect, and  cooperation-- the students are all improving their ability to play group games without any adult help!! So impressive:)
Zane's puppy visited us outside one morning as an extra special /P/ show and tell.
The week came to a super fun filled close as Gracie brought her Polaroid camera and took Pictures of each of her classmates on Pajama day! AND we ate popcorn and learned about penguins!! So many of the students are really exhibiting their ability to identify beginning sounds throughout the day now- not just during Show and Tell-- YAY!!

Welcome Back!

Everyone was so excited to start our dinosaur unit for letter D week! One of the most impressive activities was all of the team work that went into "engineering" homes for the dinosaurs! So fun to watch them try to figure out how many blocks they needed to build them "homes"  and to listen to their ideas about how to do it.
Another highlight of the week was making dinosaur bone impressions to look like fossils. The week culminated with a Dinosaur Dig! The level of concentration and interest in this task was amazing! What a great group of engaged learners!!
